Last month, I traveled to Europe.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a suitable flight directly to the Netherlands, so I ended up flying from Frankfurt, Germany. Since train travel allows you to enjoy the scenic views, I took an ICE train from Frankfurt to Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
After a 14-hour flight during which I couldn’t sleep much, I arrived at the airport around 5:20 AM. I spent the time having breakfast. Carrying my suitcase and other luggage had exhausted me, and I wondered if I could survive the upcoming two-week journey. Despite feeling drained, I boarded the train, gazing out of the window. The next stop after Frankfurt was Cologne, a city I used to visit frequently. I have fond memories of my beloved dog posing for photos in front of the station building, so I decided to capture a few pictures of Cologne from the train window.
As the train departed, passengers who had boarded in Cologne sat in the adjacent seat. To my delight, they had an adorable Yorkshire Terrier with them. It’s remarkable that dogs can travel on trains in Europe. The cute dog took an interest in me, and we played together. Dogs truly are endearing. Strangely, my fatigue dissipated, and I was able to take photos of the passing scenery. On the way from Germany to the Netherlands, we passed through cities like Düsseldorf. The landscape transitioned from Germany’s rugged, brown architecture to serene pastoral scenes. When I spotted sheep, horses, cows, and bicycles, I knew we were already in the Netherlands. The peaceful views rejuvenated me during the approximately four-hour train journey. I’m grateful to the little dog. Thank you.
先月欧州へ行ってきた。
ちょうどいいフライトが取れなかったので、オランダ発着の希望叶わず、ドイツのフランクフルト発着になってしまった。電車での移動も車窓の風景を楽しむことができるのでヨシとし、ドイツのフランクフルトからオランダのアムステルダムへICEで移動した。
14時間のフライトであまり眠れず、早朝5時20分に空港へ到着。その後、朝ごはんを食べながらやり過ごした。思いスーツケースなど荷物があったために体力をかなり消耗し、これから約２週間続く旅を無事に乗り切ることができるだろうか。。と感じながら列車へ乗り込んだ。ぐったりとしながら車窓の風景を眺めていた。フランクフルトの次の停車駅は、ケルン。以前よく立ち寄った街であり、今はなき愛犬もこの駅舎の前で記念撮影などさせた思い出があるので、ケルンの駅だけは写真に収めようと、車窓からを数枚写真を撮った。駅を発車すると、ケルンから乗り込んできた乗客が隣の座席に座る。見ると、可愛いヨーキー連れ。さすが欧州、犬も一緒に電車に乗れるのだ。可愛いワンちゃんはこちらを気にしてくれ、一緒に遊ばせてもらった。やはりワンコは愛おしい。疲れていたはずだったが、不思議とスーッと疲れが抜け、そこから車窓の風景を撮影することができた。ドイツからオランダへ向かう途中、デュッセルドルフなど大きな街を通過していく。茶色のゴツゴツとした建築が多いドイツの風景から、だんだんと何もない牧場的な風景に変わり、自転車が見えてきたら、もうそこはオランダなのだ。ポイントは羊・馬・牛などいう牧場と自転車だ。穏やかな風景を目にし、やっと元気に復活できた約４時間の列車だった。
